How to play
Apogee is a daily maths game. Every day there is one flight of five questions, the same for every pilot in the world. Answer quickly and correctly and your rocket climbs further into space.
The five questions
- Level 1: add or subtract.
- Level 2: multiply or divide.
- Level 3: find x in a one-step equation, such as x + 7 = 19 or 4x = 28.
- Level 4: two-step algebra, such as 3x + 5 = 29.
- Level 5: x on both sides, such as 3x + 2 = x + 14, or with brackets.
Each question is harder than the last, and each is worth more points than the one before it.
The clock and thrust
You get 25 seconds per question. The faster you answer, the more thrust you get: an instant answer doubles the question's points, and the bonus fades down to nothing at 25 seconds. If time runs out you score 0 for that question.
Wrong guesses
You can guess again after a wrong answer, but every wrong guess takes 3 seconds off your clock. Guessing is rarely worth it, so think first.
Your distance
Your points turn into distance from Earth. The scale is logarithmic, so each extra step takes you much further: past airliners and the International Space Station, to the Moon, the planets and eventually the centre of the Milky Way.
One flight a day
You get one attempt at the daily flight. A new flight opens at midnight Perth time (UTC+8). After you finish you can see how you compare with everyone else on the day's bell curve and share your result. Want more? Practice mode has five levels you can play as often as you like.
Themes
Themes are free and unlock as you fly more days. Classic is there from the start, Sunset (a space shuttle) after 25 flights and Alien after 50.
